Northumbria Law School’s (NLS) aspiring lawyers have teamed up with one of the largest legal aid firms in the North East to offer free legal advice.
The 10-week pilot with Newcastle-headquartered firm Ben Hoare Bell, is aimed to improve access to legal advice for people living and working in the area.
Dean of NLS Kevin Kerrigan said: “The law school has always been committed to working with the community and giving our students practical experience of what it means to be a lawyer.”
The students will provide free one-hour appointments in a range of areas of law under the supervision of the solicitors from Ben Hoare Bell.
Kerrigan added that he hopes the project, which starts on 9 February, will be extended beyond October 2012, and into a long-term programme.
