as general counsel and executive committee member following the retirement of Terence Kyle in March.
Chapman, who joined the bank as a solicitor in 2000, will lead a team of 48 lawyers and will report to president and CEO Yugo Ishida, as first revealed on www.thelawyer.
com (19 September).
Unlike his predecessor, Chapman will also be responsible for legal matters relating to Russia, as Kyle left his
post a week after Nomura had opened the doors to its
Russian operations.
The investment bank has also promoted its head
of transaction legal Colin Blackmore to international head of transaction legal.
Blackmore, a Slaughter and May alumnus, has held the titles of head of structured finance and head of corporate finance at Nomura and will oversee approximately 35 lawyers in the transaction management team.
It is understood that Nomura will also hold a panel review later this year. Its current panel, which was last reviewed in 2005, comprises Allen & Overy, Ashurst, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, Linklaters and SJ Berwin.
The bank has also been known to use Osborne Clarke and Burges Salmon on employment and IT issues respectively.
