US firm Nixon Peabody has increased its offering in the greater China region by forming a strategic alliance with Beijing-headquartered Hylands Law Firm.
The alliance is set to provide the firm’s clients with more sophisticated support and services on the ground in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Beijing and other growing business centres of China.
Hylands currently has 36 partners and over 200 lawyers across its offices in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Shenzhen and Hong Kong.
The two firms’ relationship has grown out of their common Hong Kong association firm CWL Partners. CWL Partners is a Hong Kong-based commercial firm with 18 fee-earners including nine partners.
When Nixon Peabody opened its Hong Kong office in November 2010, it also entered into an association with CWL Partners. One year later, Hylands also opened its Hong Kong office and formed an association with the same Hong Kong firm.
The three firms will work together on a broad scope of transactional, litigation and general corporate matters.
At the end of last year, the three firms worked together in Chinese flat panel manufacturer SGOCO’s $76m sale of flat its Hong Kong subsidiary Honesty Group to Apex Flourish group. Transactions in Hong Kong typically require cross-border legal advice jointly provided by Hong Kong, PRC and international legal counsel.
