  • It begs the question why are so many of the firm's lawyers based in such an expensive location. If firms want to save clients money why not have more lawyers working outside of London

  • @5.44pm raises an interesting point, there will however be always be a draw to London such as technology is attracted globally to Silicon Valley and locally to Old Street. An allied to point to this is why law firms do not encourage more home working as a way of cutting costs on real estate, and also potentially happier employees not commuting? The answer to this is the culture of 'bums on seats' that is still the norm in most city firms.

  • I have been advocating this for years - why on earth would a firm want to centralise all of its lawyers into one expensive London location. There are many lawyers who would jump at the chance to do what they do in nicer surroundings - I do 90%+ of my job from my desk; it would hardly be any more difficult from Birmingham, Oxford or anywhere else. Yes, I might need to get on a train to come into London once in a while, but in the past month I have had to do that to see clients outside of London more frequently than I have actually met them here. And another thing - some of those lawyers may actually be capable of doing more than DD - why so shortsighted as to only give them grunt work.

  • When will it be Cardiff's turn to become a near-shoring hotspot? After all, the Welsh government is chucking money at professional service firms to come to the city.

  • Birmingham is too good for these spoilt London lawyers

  • If the work is (as would be logical) simply an extension of Hog Lov's London work - just at a lower cost to clients, the smart money is definitely on this starting a trend...
