Allen & Overy (A&O) has lost longstanding corporate partner Don McGown, who pushed forward the magic circle firm’s music programme, to Hogan Lovells.
McGown was at the magic circle firm for 25 years, most recently advising 21st Century Fox on its $10bn spin-off from Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp. He will join Hogan Lovells’ corporate department on Monday (3 February 2014), having retired from the firm last August.
During his time at A&O McGown arranged a number of charity productions for employees at the firm, managing performances of Oklahoma!, Carmen and The Magic Flute, which made A&O the first ever corporate to stage an opera at Glyndebourne.
Andrew Skipper, global Co-Head of Hogan Lovells’ corporate practice, said: “Continuing to strengthen our excellent London corporate practice is important for us and Don’s arrival will bring additional high quality board level experience and international perspective to our London team. Don is a highly effective and skilled practitioner with the right skillset, market standing and collegiate approach. He is the perfect fit for our corporate practice with its global spread, in-depth industry knowledge and expertise in highly regulated sectors”.
A post on A&O’s Facebook page following the news of his exit read: ”[McGown] will forever have a place in the firms pantheon of greats as an unflappable M&A lawyer, an inspiration to younger lawyers and, of course, as possessing the finest singing voice of anyone who has passed through its corridors.”
