  • I would suggest number six tells only half the story, once the honeymoon niceties are over. He or she is as likely to stand up to you, even when you're right, surely?

  • I'm really pleased to see actual lawyers who are annoyed by these stupid eHarmony posts. They've been doing roundups of "15 reasons why to date ____ profession" for months now, and they all just seem so trite and reductive! Just marketing mumbo jumbo.

As an online dating coach, I can tell you that most singles have very particular (and often inaccurate) ideas about any given profession, but they don't line up with eHarmony's cheesy blog reasons, haha.

If you're worried about people assuming the worst because the legal profession has poor connotations in some minds, then don't list your industry at all in the metadata sidebar on the right portion of your online dating profile. Instead, talk about what excites you about your work in the actual question-answering spaces, where you get to write about it your way and make it clear why you love and value what you do. Feel free to track me down if you'd like more advice on this. Most of y'all seem married, but ya never know. :)

  • Virginia, Anonymous 2.07, you guys are very clearly high street! The list applies to city!

    You're kidding, right?

    CITY

    1. Your date was an ueber-geek and socially awkward at school. Still is.

    2. Your date is likely to cancel on you at the last minute due to "work commitments". He may be able to reschedule in the New Year after his deal closes.

    3. Your date's self-perceived status as a "City lawyer" means that he no longer tries to overcome his social ineptitude.

    4. If your date doesn't look knackered, he's what is called a "trainee". Give it a few years and he will.

    5. Your date will spend years working long hours under pressure with intelligent younger women. Indeed, he will spend much more time with his "trainee" than with you. As your relationship fades and that with his trainee blossoms, go figure...

    6. If your date is successful over the long term in his career, it will be at the material expense of his own mental heath and wellbeing, and wholly incompatible with balanced personal relationships and family life.

    etc.

  • But the fact that this lawyer date is more likely to have psychosis that possibly any other profession [bar banking] then is the list honestly so promising?

  • Why the assumption that the "date" is male, when so many lawyers, City or otherwise, are female?

    All a bit crass really!
