This year, The Lawyer’s annual ranking of the largest UK law firms by turnover is available as an interactive, digital benchmarking tool. For the first time this will allow you to manipulate each data set against the metrics of your choice.
Warne, who is currently managing director for the UK and head of the firm’s energy group, begins her four-year term on 1 May 2014. It is not known who else stood for the position.
She has been with CMS since 1993, when she set up the firm’s Aberdeen office. She went on to set up bases in Edinburgh, Rio de Janeiro, Dubai and Mexico and has now become the firm’s first-ever female senior partner.
Corporate partner Tyler, who was managing partner at the firm between 2000 and 2008, was made senior partner in 2011 after the vote went to a third round because no overall winner was declared (24 March 2011).
The third round of voting was between Tyler and consumer products head Louise Wallace, after project finance partner Andrew Ivison dropped out of the race. However it is not known if Tyler stood for a second term as senior partner.
Managing partner Duncan Weston said the firm was celebrating “two high flying female careers” this year, including Warne and Fiona Woolf, who was made Lord Mayor of the City of London at the end of September.
At the end of the last financial year 18.4 per cent of the firm’s partners and 13.7 per cent of its equity partners were women (5 August 2013).
Tyler said in a statement: “It’s been an honour to be in leadership roles for as long as 14 years. I am very pleased with what we’ve achieved. The firm and I are both ready for a change now.”
