The winter party season is kicking off in London, and this week two European firms cracked open the fizzy wine and invited their friends for a drink and canapés.
First up was Gide Loyrette Nouel, which was celebrating its tenth anniversary of being in London. Office managing partner Rupert Reece reminded guests that just weeks before the launch back in 2003 then-senior partner Gérard Tavernier was confident that Gide would not be opening in the City for some time.
A decade on, Tavernier was at the French ambassador’s residence to see the fruits of the opportunistic hire from Sidley Austin which kickstarted the venture. It has been an up-and-down period for Gide, but as Reece told The Lawyer recently, things seem to be looking up at the moment.
Then last night, lawyers came out in force for Arthur Cox’s annual bash at the Royal Exchange. The building is Irish-owned, so holding a big party there not only helps the firm network but also puts cash back into Irish coffers.
