Taylor Wessing has elected Hamburg IP partner Andreas Meissner as its new German managing partner, following the sudden decision of Florian Ranft to step down after just one year in the job.
Meissner will also take up a place on Taylor Wessing’s international management board. He takes up his new role with immediate effect.
The uncontested election follows the news earlier this year (27 February 2014) that Ranft was stepping down after just one year in the post in order to focus on his work as head of the firm’s China practice group.
Meissner has appointed four new management board members to help drive Taylor Wessing’s German strategy. Düsseldorf partner Oliver Klöck will lead the real estate, regulatory and competition group; Hamburg-based Robert Wethmar will be in charge of the corporate, finance and tax group; Olaf Kranz, also in Düsseldorf, will take over the commercial, litigation, employment and China business group; and long-standing Munich partner Thomas Raab is leading the IP/IT group.
Ranft said he was “thrilled” to be focusing on China again and would concentrate on exploiting opportunities for future growth in that area.
Meissner added that the German offices of the firm would be internationally-focused, with an emphasis on working for conglomerates, large medium-sized companies, financial institutions, and enterprises in the public sector.
Taylor Wessing recently hired Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom partner Walter Henle to strengthen its German private equity team (2 April 2014).
Further afield, the firm’s Singapore member firm RHTLaw Taylor Wessing established an alliance with Vietnamese firm PBC Partners (18 February 2014).
