McCann FitzGerald has picked up a corporate partner from rival Arthur Cox in a rare lateral hire between two of Ireland’s biggest firms.
Conor O’Dwyer joins McCanns as the firm also shifts banking partner Ronan Molony into its corporate team.
The appointments bring the number of corporate partners at McCanns to 20. The firm promoted corporate lawyers Garreth O’Brien and Stephen FitzSimons to its partnership in 2012 and made up Rory O’Malley this year (2 May 2013).
O’Dwyer acts on M&A, joint ventures and corporate reorganisations.
Chairman John Cronin said the appointments were driven by client demand and added the firm had ridden out the recession well.
“We have continued during these challenging times, principally through our corporate and banking groups, to advise many of the world’s major international banks and financial institutions and the pharma, technology and service companies based in Ireland and who do business through Ireland,” Cronin added.
Recent significant deals which McCanns has picked up include advising Great-West Lifeco and its subsidiary Canada Life on the acquisition of state-owned Irish Life (20 February 2013) and advice for Bord Gáis Éireann on the first major asset sale by the Irish government (28 January 2013).
