Italian firm Gianni Origoni Grippo Cappelli & Partners has announced the hire of two lawyers, including partner Alessandro Stoppa, from Paul Hastings Janofsky & Walker.
Stoppa will make the move to Gianni Origoni in June along with counsel Alessio Giammarino. Both specialist in corporate finance within the real estate sector, and will sit in Gianni Origoni’s real estate team.
The appointment is a rare lateral hire for the Italian firm. Its last major lateral was that of Grimaldi e Associati co-founder Roberto Cappelli and 10 associates (8 November 2011), a move followed by the addition of Cappelli’s name to Gianni Origoni’s masthead.
He is the first partner to leave Paul Hastings in Italy for some time, with the firm more recently adding to its capability in the jurisdiction with the hire of former Dewey & LeBoeuf energy partner Lorenzo Parola (10 January 2013). Stoppa’s departure leaves Paul Hastings with six Italian partners.
The firm launched in Italy in 2005, taking on board legacy Norton Rose partner Roberto Cornetta and the former head of legal at Italian dairy giant Parmalat, Bruno Cova (12 April 2005).
Meanwhile in the time between hiring Cappelli and Stoppa, Gianni Origoni has seen two partner departures. Milan-based litigator Alessandro Villani joined Linklaters (12 July 2012) while London-based Marco Gubitosi quit to launch a City office for Legance (15 October 2012).
