Baker & McKenzie has turned to Gleiss Lutz for the hire of employment partner Burkard Göpfert.
Göpfert joins Baker & McKenzie on 1 November after 14 years at the German firm. He will be based in the Munich and Frankfurt offices.
His expertise spans cross-border transactions and restructurings, as well as compliance and litigation issues.
Göpfert was also Gleiss’s ‘territory partner’ for China and South East Asia and earlier this year was part of the firm’s team acting on the €738m (£632m) investment by Chinese conglomerate Shandong Heavy Industry’s investment in German forklift manufacturer Kion.
Baker & McKenzie’s European employment head Guenther Heckelmann said the firm had worked with Göpfert on a number of matters over the years, and his Asia expertise would be a valuable addition to the firm’s offering in Germany.
Göpfert is the third Gleiss partner to leave the firm this year. In February corporate partner Ralf Thaeter joined Herbert Smith Freehills to launch the firm’s presence in Germany (13 February 2013), while M&A and finance partner Andreas Wölfle moved to domestic firm Menold Bezler a month ago (3 October 2013).
