Singaporean firm WongPartnership has broadened its regional coverage by forging a strategic alliance with Malaysian boutique Foong & Partners.
Through the new tie-up, WongPartnership now has a presence in five international locations in China, Malaysia and the Middle East.
Founded in 2003 in Kuala Lumpur, Foong & Partners is a 10-lawyer boutique firm focusing on high-end corporate commercial, capital markets and corporate finance work. It has four partners and is headed by founding partner Foong Chee Meng.
“With the closer economic relations between Singapore and Malaysia, WongPartnership has been acting in an increasing number of cross-border deals and we are excited to collaborate with a like-minded firm on these complex matters,” said Senior Counsel Alvin Yeo, senior partner at WongPartnership.
A spokesperson from the firm added that it would look for additional opportunities to expand its footprint across the ASEAN region, including tie-up with local firms in key jurisdictions.
In a bid to better facilitate its regional expansion, WongPartnership created the joint-managing partners role in April this year and appointed corporate partner Ng Wai King as joint managing partner alongside incumbent Rachel Eng (9 April 2013).
The past a few years have seen Singaporean firms expanding in the region via associations and alliances. Recently, Rajah & Tann has expanded its coverage in Malaysia by entering into association with enlarged local firm Christopher & Lee Ong (11 July 2013).
