Australian firm Minter Ellison has added two tax advisers to its Hong Kong office to spearhead the development of its tax practice in the region.
Christian Pellone and Edward Lean, both joining from EY’s Hong Kong office, have been appointed as partner and senior tax manager respectively. Pellone was a partner at EY’s Greater China tax practice and formerly the global tax desk leader for Asia Pacific at the accounting firm. He has advised many multinational companies on tax-effective structuring and risk management in the Asia Pacific region.
Lean, with 10 years’ exprience under his belt, was previously a senior tax manager in EY’s London financial services tax team and was seconded to the accounting firm’s Hong Kong office.
Head of Minter Ellison’s tax division Rhys Guild said the market for tax advice, and particularly tax advice emanating from law firms, is growing in Hong Kong, mainland China and Asia generally.
“What we’re seeing is the growth of the financial services market in Asia Pacific, the movement of North American, European and Australian banks into the region, increasingly complex cross-border transactions and increasingly aggressive behaviour of tax authorities to counter tax avoidance,” Guild said.
