Bird & Bird has sealed a cooperation agreement with Australian TMT firm Truman Hoyle in a bid to strengthen its capacity in the Asia Pacific region.
The two firms will jointly market services to clients, expanding the UK firm’s regional reach beyond its existing bases in Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong and Singapore.
Sydney-based Truman Hoyle focuses on TMT and has a practice covering transactional and contentious work, with roughly 30 lawyers across its one office in the Australian business hub.
The news follows confirmation of Bird & Bird’s full financial merger with Danish IP and IT boutique Bender von Haller Dragsted, which goes live on 1 May (11 March 2013).
Bird & Bird CEO David Kerr said in a statement: “It makes sense for us to formalise an agreement in Australia. It is one of the top 10 largest knowledge economies in the world and we already work for clients in most of the world’s top economies.”
Truman Hoyle managing partner Shane Barber added: “Bird & Bird has an impressive international reputation and an approach that really resonates for our lawyers and our clients. It has a demonstrated commitment to grow the firm to meet the increasingly international needs of clients operating in the new economy.”
