All the latest partner hires and other appointments within firms and offices in the Asia Pacific region.
Clayton Utz has added a partner in each of its Melbourne and Sydney offices. Property partner Andrew Norman joins the firm in Melbourne from King & Wood Mallesons and David Ephraums joins its Sydney office from Australian financial company AMP, where he was executive legal counsel. Last week, the firm also welcomed back securitisation partner Sonia Goumenis from Allen & Overy’s Sydney office (13 August 2013).
China and Hong Kong
Jones Day has hired Donna Healy as of counsel its banking and finance group, based in Hong Kong. Healy was formerly of counsel of Orrick’s banking and debt capital markets and structured finance groups with Orrick.
US firm Miller Canfield has hired M&A lawyer Yuan Gang as senior counsel in its corporate Group. Gang will split his time between the firm’s New York and Shanghai offices. He joins the firm from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, where he was counsel in Beijing. Prior to joining Freshfields in July 2012 (23 July 2012), he was a partner in the Beijing office of legacy Dewey & LeBoeuf. His practice focuses on the energy and natural resources sector.
Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe has appointed Ted Johnson as a partner in its M&A and private equity in Tokyo. Johnson joins from Paul Hastings’ Tokyo office, where he served as managing partner from 2006 to 2009. Johnson advises multinational companies and private equity houses in cross-border M&A transactions, joint ventures, and restructurings in Japan. His clients include the Walt Disney Company, Wal-Mart Stores and Warburg Pincus.
Singaporean firm Stamford Law has appointed corporate lawyer Parikhit Sarma as associate director. Sarma joins from US firm Duane Morris’ Singapore joint venture firm, Duane Morris & Selvam, where he held the same role. Dual-qualified in both Singapore and India, Sarma advises on a wide range of corporate and commercial transactions. During his time at Duane Morris, he was one of the team members that advised Heineken in its attempts to increase its holdings in Asia Pacific (9 August 2012).
Singaporean firm Shook Lin & Bok has hired Chew Mei Choo as a partner in its corporate real estate practice. Chew rejoins the firm from Allen & Gledhill, where she was a partner. She had been a partner of Shook Lin & Bok for 10 years before leaving for Allen & Gledhill in 2008. She advises on all types of commercial, industrial and residential property transactions including securitisation and real estate investment trusts.
