Addleshaw Goddard is to enter into an exclusive strategic alliance with Japanese firm Hashidate Law Office after a 15-year best friend relationship with the firm.
The move is intended to give Addleshaws a foothold in Tokyo as part of its planned strategic expansion across South East Asia and the Middle East. The exclusive alliance will see the two firms cross-referring work.
Hashidate is a full-service firm, founded by current managing partner Kenji Hashidate.
Managing partner Paul Devitt said: “Our alliance with Hashidate Law Office, together with our investment in new overseas offices, provides us with a strong foot-print in key economies.”
It comes just a week after the firm launched in Qatar through the hire of partners Hussein Damirji and Martin Brown from Patton Boggs and Dentons respectively (28 May 2013).
Partner Andrew Carpenter has been named as international divisional managing partner with responsibility for all non-UK offices and strategic partnerships.
Carpenter said the firm was looking to expand further in the Middle East and had pinpointed Saudi Arabia and Libya as key jurisdictions.
It comes as the firm revealed a two per cent rise in turnover for the 2012/13 year end from £170m to £167m.
