The London office of K&L Gates has made its second lateral partner hire in less than a month with the addition of energy disputes lawyer Mike Stewart from Pinsent Masons.
Stewart joins weeks after former White & Case partner Anthony Fine joined the firm’s energy and infrastructure group in London. Fine led White & Case’s public-private partnership and power project finance practice having joined with a team from the London office of Kilpatrick Stockton in 2005 (16 November 2005).
Stewart, whose focus is on disputes arising from major energy and infrastructure projects, was a veteran partner at Pinsent Masons, having joined the firm in February 1998 from Berrymans.
London head Tony Griffiths said in a statement that the practice has seen “real momentum” in the past 12 months.
Although K&L Gates revealed flatline global revenues in 2012, at $1.060bn from $1.062bn, revenues grew 17.2 per cent in Europe and the Middle East with headcount up by an average 13.4 per cent. In Asia Pacific, revenues at the firm grew 24.7 per cent in 2012 despite headcount decreasing by 3.3 per cent across the region.
In the Americas, however, turnover decreased by 2.5 per cent in 2012 while headcount was down by an average of seven per cent.
In January, K&L Gates secured its most recent merger, with Australian firm Middletons (4 December 2012), a deal that was structured with full financial integration and which is thought to have seen the US firm assume several million dollars of the acquired firm’s debt.
