Iberian giant Garrigues is bolting on Colombian firm Zarama y Asociados to launch its own office in the South American country.
Zarama founder Fernando Zarama and fellow partner Camilo Zarama will both join Garrigues as partners, bringing with them six other lawyers.
The move follows Garrigues’ decision to pull out of its Latin American alliance to begin the process of launching its own offices on the continent (13 May 2013).
Fernando Zarama founded the firm in 2000 and was later joined by Camilo Zarama, who previously worked at Garrigues’ Madrid office.
In recent weeks a further 10 lawyers have also been recruited to Garrigues’ new Bogota office, mainly from local firms. Several of the team have previously worked at or spent time on secondment at Garrigues. The Colombia office will be led by partner Javier Ybañez.
The team will work on a wide range of corporate and commercial issues, including M&A, capital markets, litigation and employment.
