Pinsent Masons has hired Bircham Dyson Bell projects partner Robbie Owen as a partner and head of its infrastructure planning and government affairs group.
Owen, who headed Bircham’s major projects practice, will join Pinsents’ London base as a partner within its planning and environment team this summer.
The hire represents a major push by Pinsents to beef up its ability in infrastructure consenting. Owen is one of a small number of lawyers authorised as a ‘roll A’ parliamentary agent capable of promoting or opposing private and hybrid bills in Westminster.
He is currently advising on projects including the London Underground’s Northern Line extension and the high-speed HS2 rail line.
Pinsents is expected to follow up his hire with further recruitment in the infrastructure and transport sphere.
Pinsents planning and environment head Richard Ford said in a statement: “We are investing to grow further our planning and environment practice and Robbie will add extensive infrastructure, government and parliamentary capability to our existing team. Robbie’s appointment comes at a time when crucial transport infrastructure projects as well as energy projects are moving forward through a variety of procedures which Robbie is an expert in.”
