  • £180k in damages? When the court has vindicated his reputation in full? That's basically six years' average salary. Or, in litigation terms, the equivalent of losing both legs.

I'd take the Sunday Times telling lies about me in exchange for a six year holiday any day...

  • Unfortunately Mr Tick (4.33pm) the downside of Cruddas' irrecoverable legal costs are likely to more than wipe out the damages. Even if he recovers more than the usual 70% odd maximum of the reported £1m costs incurred he will still be out of pocket. Of course if he had insurance, he'll be taking that holiday.

  • Mr Murdoch's "editor" of The Times chooses to bury this story at the foot of page 16 under a banner headline concerning Simon Cowell's lovechild. Time the press was regulated.
