The regulator was planning to keep the panel at the same size but chose to appoint six following a review process.
The previous panel, which also included FFW, lasted from 2010 to 31 May this year (3 May 2010), with the new-look roster also running for a three-year term from 1 June with a review in 2016 and the option for a two-year extension before a further review in 2018.
The panel was first introduced when the SRA was established in 2007.
The panellists’ roles cover dealing with court proceedings arising from interventions, representation in recovery litigation including tracing actions or injunctions, defending and pursuing judicial review applications, regulatory appeals and defending and pursuing other claims on the SRA’s, as well as providing other types of legal advice on regulatory issues.
SRA head of legal and enforcement Jennifer Johnson said in a statement: “We had originally been looking to recruit five firms to maintain the size of the previous panel, but the high standard of the bids from these applicants persuaded the SRA to appoint all six. We look forward to working with all of them over the coming years.”
