DLA Piper is to offload its Manchester and Sheffield defendant insurance practices to Hill Dickinson.
The announcement comes less than a week after the firm announced it would close its Glasgow office (24 January 2013).
Hill Dickinson will add a team of 30 to its Manchester and Sheffield offices as part of the deal.
The practice, which has a turnover of approximately £2m, specialises in disease cases. Hill Dickinson managing partner Peter Jackson said the firm had made the expansion of its insurance practice a priority.
The deal will also see Hill Dickinson acquiring DLA’s insurance client base.
Jackson said of the move: “This is a significant acquisition for the firm. The improvement of our relationship with mainstream insurers is a priority for our insurance business and this deal will help us to meet this objective.”
The new team will transfer on 28 February.
DLA Piper also plans to offload its Birmingham defendant insurance practice, although a deal is yet to be revealed.
