  • Glad to DACB are not wasting their hard borrowed money on high risk ventures. I have a good feeling about their new virtual office.

  • Good strategic move

  • Hardly a serious move and in no way competition for stallwarts such as Clyde & Co. A 'desk' which is not even permanently manned is hardly a route in to the highly competetive and over-lawyered US market. Will there be an actual office or simply a "desk" ? If the former this will surely just add to the notably high debt levels discussed in the Lawyer's other story today...

  • Unless DAC put lawyers on the ground, which will be prohibitively expensive given news today of their debt levels, then having a 'marketing desk' is surely no different to flying a partner over for a week on a plane. If they want more US contacts, or potential partners, there are plenty of dating websites they could sensibly explore...

  • Even if it ain't all it seems, they've got a pocket full of dreams about New York, the concrete jungle where dreams are made of, there's nothing they can't do now their in New York.....

  • Of course they won't make an impact on NYC, however, this is still a positive move. They have had an awful couple of years and it is likely to get a lot worse. The DACB spin machine has been giving Bond Dickinson a run for their money, trying to explain why acquiring more debt is a really good way to run a business. They have two choices: try new things or continue as they are in decline. Well done DACB for giving it a go against all the odds.

  • Anonymous @ 11:10, that's a very disingenuous comment to make.

If DAC are finding themselves increasingly debt-laden then surely the way out of the hole is to attract new business? What better place to do that than the US which is the land of opportunity? This sounds like a great new challenge and I commend their fighting spirit.

  • Sorry Rob. It did sound disingenuous, that certainly wasn't my intention.
I genuinely want DACB to do well in NYC. I genuinely admire their plucky spirit. I also genuinely believe their chances of succeeding are slim at best. Having said that, you can pick up a mailing address with meeting room access for a year and get change from a grand, so it's worth a punt.
