Redmond’s departure for Keating came as a shock to the London bar as he had never clerked anywhere except Wilberforce and was known for being a driving force behind its growth.
Luckman is also a longstanding member of XXIV Old Buildings’ clerking team, having joined the set in 1984 and been appointed practice director in 1987.
He will lead the Wilberforce clerking staff with team leader Mark Rushton promoted to be his deputy. The pair will work alongside current deputy chief executive John Treacy, who will be taking charge of all of the non-clerking aspects of chambers’ business.
Wilberforce Chambers head John Martin QC said: "Declan Redmond, who leaves at the end of the year, will be a hard act to follow; but Nick Luckman is the ideal person, with Mark Rushton and the rest of Wilberforce’s clerks, to maintain and develop chambers’ reputation for client care."
XXIV Old Buildings’ chambers heads Martin Mann QC and Alan Steinfeld QC issued a statement, commenting: “We are very sorry that Nick will be leaving and will therefore not be with us as we continue to develop the success of XXIV Old Buildings. This success would not have been possible without the staff team at XXIV Old Buildings whom we are confident will ensure a seamless handover.
“However, we do, of course, fully understand Nick’s desire to pick up new challenges and we wish him all the very best in his new job. Our plans for his successor will be announced in due course.”
Luckman is due to join Wilberforce at the end of the year when Redmond will take up his position at Keating, replacing Nick Child who left in May to join Navigant Consulting as managing director and head of global market development for the company’s global construction practice (15 May 2013).
