  • I'm not sure that the facility to have a nice lunch makes up for inadequate conference facilities.

  • Nor the recent opportunity of seeing the stars of "Silk" filming in the Temple.

  • Heard many other sets at set to move because of the high rents. The Inn might then realise that its stance is totally ridiculous.

  • Not only are the rents too high but any type of construction work needs permission from the Inns. While I'll always love the area is it really necessary for all chambers to be stuck together in a square, all paying huge rents, and being restricted on how we decorate the office?
Commerciality will begin to bite and many sets will left with little option but to move, but rooms at the inn will always be in demand, so why would they drop the rate?

  • An awkward barrier to moving is how many sets have named themselves after their address. But I question how many of the barristers complaining would really be keen to leave the romantic setting of the inns that frames their romantic images of themselves so nicely in exchange for work in another faceless City office building. Maddams can probably rest easy.

  • “They are much too expensive for what they offer.” Pot. Kettle....

  • If the barristers move out, will seedy claims management companies move in? I can just imagine the ads:

"Inns of Court firm 'Grabyourcompo' offers a traditional range of services including your own bespoke 'Cash for Crash' designed to your personal requirements in the time honoured manner with a free Iphone and Sky Subscription. We offer a superb range of back injuries, none of which can be disproved by insurance companies. Call us now for your personal Jackpot."

  • In common with Middle, Inner Temple leases can be broken on three months notice. That would be rare in the commercial property world outside of the Temple and is a benefit not to be underestimated in the present uncertain business climate.

  • The first set of chambers that splits, has to surrender their City offices and pony up for the penalty clause, will soon find out why the Inns offer a better bet for sole practitioners in chambers.
