  • Females ranking male barristers on looks = harmless fun.

Males ranking females barristers on looks = disgusting sexisim.

    Double standards, anyone?

  • "Those sets that have missed out on being ranked include Blackstone Chambers, Brick Court and One Essex Court."

Erm, and a whole host of others.

  • @Anonymous, 1.42 - isn't that the point of the word "include"...? i.e. it is not an exhaustive list. In any event, I'm disgusted that women think this kind of behaviour is acceptable. Men are not objects of desire. I think it's only fair now to rank city law firms' hottest secretaries....

  • To Anonymous at 18-Jul-2013 1:00 pm, from their Twitter feed it appears that there will be a female version, but this will take longer to prepare, as there are more, shall we say, numerous candidates for the top 20 positions.

As to the double standards, this is of course true. But at the same time, one should also consider the question: why are there so many more attractive female barristers than male ones? The answer may well be that attractiveness is a selection factor for female barristers rather than male ones. In which case, who is doing the selecting, and why is this a factor?

The issues run rather deeper than mere double standards. Although not a barrister, I rest my case (and resist any comments about briefs, hehehe).

  • @Anonymous | 18-Jul-2013 2:39 pm - surely that is doubly sexist - women aren't just secretaries you know!

  • Oooo what fun! Now let's have a similar list for the girlies at the Bar. And why stop there? What about the hottest JUDGES?

  • Interesting - the site is down as of this morning. I wonder whether the barrister in 2nd place (Derrick Dale) has sued on the basis that he isn't in fact "dull" (as the site alleged). Or whether any of the other barristers listed have said anything.

  • False alarm. The site is now back up.

  • It's just a bit of harmless fun. It's true that some women would complain about sexism if a similar list were drawn up for female barristers, but the attitude of those women isn't really something to be emulated.

  • There is a reason why there isn't a similar website for attractive female barristers...

  • So exiting. Just like the beginning of Facebook (hot or not). This could be big, really big!

  • Just looked at Tumblr, and there is really nothing worth looking at after no. 3. In fact, the best ones are 2 and 3, in that order. Nothing special about no. 1 really.

  • I love the comment about #1: "Patrick ticks so many boxes, we’re going to need new boxes". In fact, the comments are often better than the photos. Looking forward to the female list...

  • It seems the idea is nothing new. Jane Austen wrote in 'Emma' of "pert young lawyer" William Coxe. I don't recall any of the top 20 real lawyers being described thus.
