Weightmans has added DWF partner Robert Turnbull to its corporate practice. He joined DWF from legacy firm Cobbetts and deals with a broad range of corporate transaction work including public markets and international work.
HowardKennedyFsi has added solicitor David Gilinsky to its financial services team. Gilinsky qualified at Allen & Overy in 2008 and comes from S Friedman & Co, where he was a foreign-qualified lawyer.
Marriott Harrison has hired two corporate partners. Tim Bee from Field Fisher Waterhouse specialises in advising financial services companies, while Andrew Wigfall led the venture capital team at Nabarro and is active in the technology sector.
Goodman Derrick has hired Joanna Higton as a partner in the corporate group. She joins from Maclay Murray & Spens. Higton’s practice is made up of corporate transactional work for UK private and public companies and she has worked as a corporate lawyer for more than 25 years.
Squire Sanders in London has hired Matthew Doughty. Doughty has joined the corporate and corporate finance practice from Dorsey & Whitney. He specialises in equity capital markets and has a wide range of experience in transactions around the globe, including AIM. He also advises on securities compliance and governance, mergers and acquisitions, investment funds
and fund formation.
The London office of K&L Gates has added Chiara del Frate as special counsel in the real estate investment, development, and finance practice. Formerly a consultant with Millbank Solicitors, del Frate has a broad range of experience advising on transactions in the UK and Italy.
Law firm Adams & Remers has appointed two new solicitors, Joanna Clark and Jennifer Mansoor, who will both be based
in the firm’s Lewes office. Clark has joined the commercial property team from Brighton firm Burt Brill & Cardens and prior to that she spent eight years with DLA Piper in Manchester. Mansoor joins from the National Union of Teachers, where she obtained specialist employment law experience in the education sector.
The Leicester office of Nelsons Solicitors has appointed franchise law expert Gurmeet Jakhu as a partner in its franchising team. He joins the firm from specialist franchise legal practice Hamilton Pratt in Warwickshire, where he was a partner and head of dispute resolution.
Leeds-based ABS Brilliant Law has hired two solicitors and a financial director. Richard Turner has been hired as senior solicitor in the employment division. He joins from Castleford Tigers Rugby Club, where he was operations manager. He previously lectured at Leeds University and spent seven years as a solicitor with Pinsent Masons. Rob Ashall, who joins as senior solicitor in the corporate and commercial division joins from Addlestone Keane, where he rose to the position of partner. Financial director Graham Fillery joins from Irwin Mitchell, where he was divisional accountant. Before this, he was head of commercial finance for Squire Sanders.
Lesley Gordon has followed four of her colleagues to bto’s family law practice from Lindsays, where she was head of the family law department.
Squire Sanders has hired partner Anton Rogoza, who joins the firm’s corporate and corporate finance group in Moscow from Goltsblat BLP. Rogoza is a specialist in private equity with wide experience of M&A and corporate restructuring projects.
Bird & Bird has appointed Bernhard Gemmel as a partner in its international banking and finance practice. He will join the Frankfurt office and was previously a partner at Dentons in Frankfurt. Associate Stanislav Schmidt also joins from Dentons, where he was an associate.
Norton Rose Fulbright in Munich has hired Alexander Hemmelrath as a partner. Hemmelrath has significant tax law experience. He was most recently a partner at tax firm WTS.
In Raleigh, North Carolina, K&L Gates has added David Lindsay as a labour, employment and workplace safety partner. He joins from Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton, and focuses his practice on employment litigation, class action, international employment and wage and hour matters.
Jonathan Drake has joined specialist insurance firm Clausen Miller. Drake advises on all aspects of non-contentious insurance and reinsurance law with particular expertise in cross-border projects and the efficient use of regulatory capital. He had been a partner in the financial institutions group at Ashurst for the past seven years, but left at the end of April.
Specialist financial services regulatory consultancy Bovill has appointed Edward Black as a principal. He joins from Katten Muchin Rosenman, where he spent nine years as a special counsel and partner.
Judith Joan Sullivan has joined Davidoff Hutcher & Citron as partner and chair of its international practice group. She was formerly a partner at Anderson Kill & Olick.

Middle Eastern firm Al Tamimi & Company has promoted six new partners in Iraq, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Rafiq Jaffer is now a banking and finance partner in Qatar, Jawad Khalaf is a litigation partner in Iraq, Mamoon Khan is a banking and finance partner in the UAE, Ibtissam Lassoued is a financial crime partner in the UAE, Frank Lucente is a corporate commercial partner in Qatar and Munir Suboh is an IP partner in the UAE.
Cains Advocates has appointed three new directors. Robert Colquitt (litigation), Tristan Head (corporate) and Geoff Kermeen (corporate) will sit on the board.
