Move of the week:
has appointed Brian Hoffman as a partner in its New York office. Hoffman was formerly co-chair of the M&A practice in the Americas at Clifford Chance. He has three decades of corporate experience, including hostile takeovers, cross-border transactions, management and leveraged buyouts, acquisitions and domestic and international capital markets fundraising activities.
Seddons has appointed three partners and two fee-earners, and promoted two associates. Christian Taylor joins the property practice as a partner, coming from Holman Fenwick Willan, where he was a real estate partner. Christin Smith joins from Coffin Mew, where he was a partner. He is now a commercial disputes partner and will focus on insolvency, shareholder disputes and banking litigation. Kryi Papantoniou has also been appointed as a partner in corporate transactions and commercial projects. He joins from Healys, where he advised clients on corporate transactions and commercial projects as a company commercial partner. Two associates, Germana Lo Iacono-Smith and Emily Lui, have been made partner. Two new fee-earners, Danielle Keinan and Aoife Cantillon, have been appointed. Keinan comes from Bird & Bird, where she was a real estate associate. Cantillon joins from Child & Child, where she was an assistant solicitor in the leasehold enfranchisement department.
Taylor Vinters has recruited two technology partners. Rhys Williams joins from Bird & Bird, where he was a partner, and Charles Fletcher joins from Taylor Wessing, where he was a senior associate.
South West firm Stephens Scown has appointed Kate Theophilus as an agricultural and rural partner. She was formerly a partner at Coodes.
Stone King has hired partner Amanda Watts. She joins the firm’s residential property team from Hertfordshire legal practice Nockolds, where she was a
partner in the firm’s commercial property team.
Thrings has hired Jane Oakland as a partner in its corporate team. She joins the Bristol office from Clarke Willmott, where she was also a corporate partner.
Semple Fraser partner June Gilles will join Edinburgh firm Davidson Chalmers as a planning partner. She will also work with the commercial and retail property, and renewable energy teams.
Simmons & Simmons has appointed Hidde Koenraad as a partner in its IP team in Amsterdam. He joins from Dutch IP boutique Vondst Advocaten, where he was a senior associate.
Norton Rose has appointed Christian Dargham as a partner in its Paris office. He specialises in litigation and corporate compliance, and joins from the Paris office of Clifford Chance, where he was a counsel.
White & Case has launched a Spanish office, hiring Latham & Watkins’ local corporate head Juan Manuel de Remedios to open in Madrid. De Remedios joins White & Case as Madrid executive partner, bringing with him Latham counsel Yoko Takagi, who will become a local partner. Further associate hires are expected.
K&L Gates’ Newark office has added John Scordo as a partner in the its insurance coverage practice. Scordo was formerly a partner at Day Pitney.
Nixon Peabody has hired former US senator Scott Brown. Brown will join the firm’s Boston office as a counsel, focusing his practice on business and governmental affairs.
Paul Hastings has hired Nathaniel Edmonds. Edmonds joins as a partner in the firm’s global compliance and disputes practice and will be based in Washington DC. He was formerly at the Department of Justice, where he was an assistant chief of the fraud section, foreign corrupt practices act unit in the criminal division.
Arnold & Porter has hired Bruce Saber as a real estate counsel in its New York office. Saber was most recently president of Curator.
The Washington DC office of K&L Gates has appointed Frank Schweitzer as a partner in its international arbitration and international trade practices. He joins K&L Gates from the Office of the US Trade Representative, where he was associate general counsel.
David Fournier has joined Perkins Coie in its Chicago office as a partner in the firm’s IP practice. Fournier was most recently a partner at K&L Gates.
Eversheds has appointed Oommen Mathew as managing director of its Singapore office. Matthew has been with Eversheds since 2009, but started his career at Allen & Gledhill.
K&L Gates has hired Deborah Bean as a finance partner. She joins from Gadens’ Brisbane office, where she was also a partner.
Norton Rose has appointed Tricia Hobson to the newly created role of Asia Pacific head of insurance. Hobson has been a partner in the practice for over five years and has acted for major Australian and international financial institutions and their insurers, representing them in Supreme and Federal Court proceedings.
Clifford Chance has hired Alastair MacAulay as a partner to lead on maritime and offshore finance in its Hong Kong office. MacAulay was a partner at Asia Pacific’s Mayer Brown JSM, where he was the practice leader for finance in Asia.
Holman Fenwick Willan has appointed Paul Woodley to its aerospace team. He will join in June as an associate and will be based in Singapore. Previously an associate at Gates & Partners, he has acted for airlines, manufacturers and airport service providers in several jurisdictions, in addition to handling complex sports liability and aviation-related claims.
