Lawrence Grahampartner Jane Fox-Edwards has quit the firm to join Allen & Overy(A&O) as head of its property litigation group. Fox-Edwards leaves the firm after 23 years and is succeeded by real estate partner Carole Peet. Fox-Edwards will join A&O as a consultant to lead a five-strong team and will sit within the firm’s litigation practice. She replaces partner Beverly Vara, who is to retire from A&O.
Gareth Oldale has been promoted to partner and head of technology and data at Sharpe Pritchard. He joined Sharpe Pritchard in 2010 and specialises in working with clients on major projects in the technology, media and telecommunications sectors.
Kerman & Co has added partner Paul Gilks and senior associate Susan Perry to its corporate and commercial teams. Gilks joins from Glovers, where he was head of corporate. His practice areas include private equity, corporate finance, M&A and banking. Perry moves from Druces, where she qualified in 2002 and was head of entrepreneurs. She focuses on M&A, corporate advisory and commercial law.
Nick Phillips has joined Edwin Coe’s corporate group as an IP and IT partner from Barlow Robbins, where he was head of IP and IT. Philips’ practice encompasses dispute resolution and non-contentious work.
Davenport Lyons has made Richard Williams its first CEO after he became its financial consultant one year ago.
Dentons has hired Michelle Bradfield as a partner in its international arbitration practice. Bradfield joins from Latham & Watkins’ international arbitration group, where she has practised since 2005. She advises and represents private entities, government entities and international organisations on both contentious and non-contentious matters.
Winckworth Sherwood has hired partner Nikki Lynds-Xavier to lead its housing management team. She joins from Clarke Willmott, where she led the housing management team. The firm has also promoted associates James Lynas and Hazel Anderson to partner. Lynas concentrates his practice on education and employment, while Anderson focuses on transport and infrastructure.
Reed Smith has hired partner Rashpaul Bahia. Bahia joins the energy and natural resources group from McDermott Will & Emery. He trained with McDermott and made partner there in 2011. He will be based in London.
Bindmans has appointed partners John Halford and Saimo Chahal as joint heads of public law and human rights. Chahal joined the firm in 1993, Halford in 2003.
Boodle Hatfield has promoted four associates to partner. Hayden Bailey practises in the private client and tax group, Christina Christou and Graham Winkley in property and Tim Maxwell in litigation.
Brachers has hired associate Carmel Sunley. Sunley joins after a year in Australia. She was admitted by the Supreme Court of Victoria this year. From 2003 to 2011, she set up and ran specialist employment law practice Sunley Solicitors.
DWF has hired two lawyers from DLA Piper. Litigation partner Andrew Harris joins its litigation practice and will based in Manchester. He specialises in company law, corporate governance, boardroom and shareholder issues, schemes of arrangement and capital restructuring. The firm also appointed Paul Rimmer to lead its corporate practice in Liverpool. He will also be executive partner for the office and lead DWF in the Liverpool market. He was a corporate partner at DLA Piper’s Liverpool office.
In Brussels, Steptoe & Johnson has hired three former Field Fisher Waterhouse lawyers to join its environment and life sciences group. Partner Ruxandra Cana will move with senior associate Indiana de Seze and senior adviser Michel Michaux.
Paris firm Orsay Avocats has appointed Thierry Schwartzman and Douglas Glucroft as partners. Schwartzman joins from law firm Vendome, which he founded. Glucroft was managing partner of Nixon Peabody’s Paris office, which the firm recently closed.
Hunton & Williams has hired Geneviève Michaux in Brussels as a counsel in the firm’s food and drug group. She joins from Covington & Burling, where she was an of counsel. Her practice covers European, French, and Belgian pharmaceutical, medical device, and cosmetic law.
Field Fisher Waterhouse has hired partner Stefanie Greifeneder and senior associate Andrea Veh in its Munich office. Both join from Dentons. Greifeneder specialises in IP law in the life sciences sector, focusing on M&A and private equity transactions as well as IP litigation. Veh has worked with Greifeneder for three years and specialises in IP, compliance and mediation.
Bird & Bird has hired Matthias Winter as partner in its international aviation and German banking and finance groups. Winter will be based in Frankfurt. He joins from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, where he was a counsel. His work includes aircraft leasing transactions, the financing of mobile equipment, project financing and various fund structures.
Corporate boutique Lacourte Balas Raquin has recruited Gide Loyrette Nouel corporate partners Serge Tatar and Renaud Rossa and is rebranding as Lacourte Raquin Tatar. The duo, both of whom practise corporate and M&A law, join a number of other former Gide lawyers at Lacourte Raquin. Gide’s former managing partner, Jean-Jacques Raquin, who held the role between 1999 and 2003, moved to Lacourte Balas in 2011 and added his name to the firm’s masthead.
French independent Racine has launched its first overseas office, merging with Akhoun-Rajabaly-Affejee & Associés on the Indian Ocean island of Réunion. The merger follows the formation of a partnership between the firms in October last year. Akhoun-Rajabaly-Affejee & Associés partners Iqbal Akhoun, Rohan Rajabaly and David Affejee become partners at Racine.
Bingham McCutchen has hired former Federal Trade Commission senior competition adviser Darren Tucker and former Department of Justice prosecutor Michael Whitlock for its Washington DC litigation practice.
Morgan Lewis has hired litigator Yasmin Tayyab. She joins as a partner and will be based in Chicago. She comes from Segal McCambridge Singer & Mahoney, where she was partner.
