Schulte Roth & Zabel has added partners Peter Declercq (pictured) and Sonya Van de Graaff to its London business reorganisation practice. Declercq and Van de Graaff both come from Brown Rudnick, where they were partners. Declercq focuses on cross-border insolvencies, restructurings and distressed mergers and acquisitions, while Van de Graaff mainly works on European restructuring, distressed investing and debt trading.UK
Debevoise & Plimptonhas named Matthew Getz and Jessica Gladstone as international counsel. Both are based in the firm’s London office and they joined in 2005 and 2010 respectively.
Gibson Dunn & Crutcher has hired Ali Nikpay as a partner in its worldwide antitrust and competition law practice group. He joins from the Office of Fair Trading (OFT), where he was head of its cartels and criminal enforcement department. He was also one of the OFT’s main decision-makers in merger cases. Deirdre Taylor, Nikpay’s former assistant director, will join Gibson Dunn as an of counsel.
Sacker & Partners has hired Georgina Stewart as head of business development and marketing. For the past seven years Stewart has run her own marketing consultancy, Blue Panther. Previously, she was marketing director at Freshfields
SJ Berwin has hired Stephen Webb as a partner to the real estate practice in London. Webb is a chartered town planner in addition to being a solicitor. He joins from SNR Denton , where he led the planning team and was one of the firm’s three global government sector heads.
Lewis Silkin has promoted senior associate Rebecca Peedell to employment, reward and immigration partner.
Five former Atteys lawyers who lost their jobs after the firm went into administration have moved to Taylor Bracewell following its recent expansion into Sheffield. The sister company of niche employment firm Bhayani Bracewell has hired three property lawyers and two wills and probate partners. Partner Steve Taylor qualified in 1999 and has specialised in residental property since 2007. Partner Richard Ellis has 38 years’ experience as a property lawyer. Mark Walton is a chartered legal executive who has worked in residental property for 13 years. Victoria Sladdin and Stephen Coates have joined the firm’s personal law team. Sladdin qualified 20 years ago and Coates is an expert in dealing with personal injury trusts and trusts for disabled people.
Marsden Rawsthorn has hired Catherine Hylton as an associate in its commercial property team. Hylton moves from Barnetts Solicitors, where she was an associate.
Brabners Chaffe Streethas hired Andrew Millar as a corporate finance partner in Manchester. He joins the firm from Squire Sanders, where he was a partner. He has experience of running local and cross-border transactions and has advised on mergers and acquisitions, public company takeovers, equity capital markets transactions and corporate governance.
Gullands Solicitors has hired Sarah Astley and Barrie Jones as associates. Astley joins following a career break. Previously, she was an associate at Cripps Harries Hall. Jones joins Gullands from Dickinson Dees, where he was an associate.
Charles Russell has hired Colin Gibson as a dispute resolution partner in Cheltenham. He was previously head of dispute resolution at Rickerbys. Gibson has particular experience in breach of contract claims, negligence claims and partnership disputes, and is a licenced insolvency practitioner and mediator.
Head of rural and agricultural affairs at Everys Carinna Parsons has returned from maternity leave. She is based in the Honiton office in Devon and specialises in agricultural law, land properties and commercial property.
Anderson Strathern has hired Sarah Baillie as a senior associate in its Glasgow office. She comes from collapsed firm Semple Fraser and has worked on some of Europe’s largest infrastructure, regeneration and development projects. She has advised a number of high-profile clients such as Tesco and Ayrshire Power.
Carl-Magnus Uggla has joined Hannes Snellman as a partner.
He joins from Ernst & Young, where he was head of real estate tax and worked closely with the transactions tax group. Uggla has more than a decade of experience in Swedish and international corporate taxation.
Squire Sanders has hired Gregory Young as a partner in its West Palm Beach office. He joins from Edwards Wildman, where he was a partner in the firm’s real estate department and chair of the public policy and governmental relations department.
Randy Miller has joined Venable as a partner in its Tysons Corner, Virginia office. Miller comes from Arnold & Porter, where he was a business litigation partner. He has experience of complicated business and contract disputes, and has acted for leading names in the region’s core industries of technology, real estate, hospitality, and government contracting.
K&L Gates’ Houston office has added Arthur Howard as a partner in its corporate/M&A practice. He joins from Haynes and Boone, where he was a partner.
Holland & Knight has appointed Oliver Agha as a partner. Agha will head the Islamic finance and Middle East and North Africa practices. He founded boutique Islamic finance firm Agha & Co in 2010. The boutique includes four associates, who will also join Holland & Knight.
Ashley Serr is Exchange Chambers’ latest member. Serr will be based in Leeds and specialises in employment law, but also has expertise in commercial law and public law. He was called to the bar in 1996 and joins Exchange from Parklane Plowden.
