North West firm Pannone is set to make its second round of redundancies this year with 16 lawyer and support staff positions facing the axe.
According to managing partner Emma Holt, the cuts are down to shifting client demands and the evolving legal market. The fee-earners at risk are in the firm’s corporate services and dispute resolution, and regulatory divisions, and range from solicitors to legal directors. Support staff in the firm’s finance team will also be affected.
Earlier this year The Lawyer reported that Pannone was mulling around 12 fee-earner and support staff redundancies in its construction, road traffic accident and family teams in Manchester (10 January 2012). A spokesperson confirmed that the final number made redundant then was around 12.
In a statement, Holt said: “Pannone has undertaken a strategic review of the business in order to reshape our teams to meet client demands and embrace the evolving legal market.
“The review will unfortunately result in up to 16 redundancies across the firm. These will be a mix of support roles in Pannone’s finance team and fee-earning positionsin in the corporate services and dispute resolution and regulatory divisions.
“As regrettable as these redundancies are, it’s essential that our teams continue to be as efficient as possible and that we invest in the relevant skills and resources identified in our strategic review.
“Pannone is focusing on a number of specialist areas where we have considerable expertise and a strong reputation. We see the opportunity to build on our success in the areas of IP, IT and e-commerce, partnerships and projects and will be actively recruiting experienced lawyers in these fields.”
