Lawyers and support staff in DWF’s Edinburgh and Glasgow offices have been put on redundancy notice as part of the firm’s wider restructuring programme.
Lawyers and staff in the two offices were informed of the move yesterday by executive partner Alasdair Peacock. It is believed that fewer than 100 positions are at risk.
In Edinburgh those affected include associates in the banking and finance practice; solicitors in the corporate group; associates and senior solicitors in the infrastructure, environment and transport (IET) group; and solicitors and secretaries in the real estate group.
In Glasgow, meanwhile, there will be cuts on an associate and legal assistant level in the litigation group alongside a reduction in the number of associates in the real estate practice and secretaries in the pensions practice. The IT support team will also be affected.
The restructuring is part of the 2013/14 budgeting process, lawyers and staff were told, and come amid a wider strategic review of commercial services and predicted future workflows.
A consultation process is underway and is expected to last 30 days, although the firm had not confirmed this.
In March the firm cut 38 roles from the support team, with a further 21 support staff still in consultation over their futures (27 March 2013).
DWF acquired ailing firm Cobbetts in a pre-pack deal in January (31 January 2013) and merged with the 22-partner Scottish professional indemnity practice Fisburns in February (18 January 2013).
The latest details do not confirm the exact number of roles afected by the firmwide restructuring but suggest that several locations are affected. No one from DWF was available to comment this morning.
