  • With the legal market for hiring in the US in the current state that it is in, I sincerely hope that the partners making the decision to pull the offers realize that they've wrecked 10 promising young legal careers. They've probably set back the career paths of some of the offerees by a couple of years, while some of the others will never get to practice in a big law firm ever again.

But no, they were probably too concerned with their sacred PEP numbers.

  • Well.. knowing that IP partner who is set to join... they should have a sizeable IP practice within a few years. Well done to them on snaring one of the true rainmakers in the market

  • anon @ 7.56 .. I'm anon@ 2.37 pm and I am not a member of the PR team. I am a previous associate of this IP partner (we haven't worked together for about 6 years). I was recruited by him and worked under him in the past. He's the best department head I ever came across, the best man manager I ever came across and if I was recruiting someone to create a practice he is the man I would choose every time.

He is one of the few partners I have ever met who actually does what a partner is supposed to do, which is fully develop people, support them and give them a progressively more difficult role in which they take responsibility whilst he goes and gets even more work to feed the beast.

As for why I don't work with him any more.. well the very first time we met he said that if I had not outgrown him within 5 years he had failed, and he expected to develop people to the stage that he was no longer strictly necessary. Our ways parted and we moved to different pastures, but I would work with him again in a heartbeat and even now would work like a mad man to help him make another monster.
