  • Counselling is helpful but it is reactive. I suggest business and health change the focus to a more proactive response to physical and mental ill health caused by continuing, excessive pressures (the definition of stress). A couple of years ago we decided to utilise the phrase "Elephant in the Room" to create our e learning programme ElephantWatch which is an e learning journey from stress to well-being. Once people understand the concepts of self responsibility for health, the dynamics change significantly.
Stress and Well-being are at opposite end of a continuum. When staff are well they can develop resiliency skills, they work smarter and can motivate not only themselves but their colleagues. I believe these are the staff that should speak out, acting as Champions for good health and encouraging individuals to take responsibility for their health and well-being.
