Busy day in the office? If it makes you feel better, poke a nose at Heathrow general counsel Carol Hui’s to-do list. Hui’s pint-sized legal team are doing stuff like defining the future of UK air travel, so stop the whinging.
Hui – who also happens to be the director of Heathrow Airport - sits at the forefront of Heathrow’s submission to the Airport Commission to increase capacity at Britain’s airports. The team is also currently working on the trifling matter of “the largest privately funded project in Europe” in the form of Heathrow’s brand new Terminal 2, with the Queen set to cut the red ribbon in June 2014.
For a company that has been tangled up in so many legal binds it is remarkable that before 2009 it had no external panel. Hui spent her first six months rebuilding the legal team – much in the same way that the airport is now rebuilding Terminal 2, to make it fit for today’s world. A review earlier this year gave panel seats to Berwin Leighton Paisner and Morton Fraser.
So next time you’re passing through Heathrow on holiday or business, spare a thought for Hui and her busy team.
