  • I was once told by a TV insurance partner that it was the then considerable, regular fee income of the defendant insurance division that financed the firm, other sectors such as corporate, employment etc. having peaks and troughs or dry spells in their fee income. If practically all of insurance goes, where does that leave other sectors?

  • With virtually all of Bristol and Cardiff leaving, and those in the TV who were capable of finding employment elsewhere having left, that now leaves a credit hire team under Neil Forsyth and a small property damage team under Kirsteen Mace for the taking in the TV. Any takers or bidders at all?

  • MC also used to have a fledgling professional negligence team in Cardiff under Claire Hughes Williams, but that got lifted by DAC too.

  • The insurance teams at Morgan cole were always viewed as inferior by the rest of the firm, and many of the solicitors were paid less than solicitors in other departments despite having the same targets in terms of fee income. It's no surprise that they are now moving to firms which recognise the value of insurance work

  • Out of the frying pan and in to the fire...

  • Many an agent told me I was being under paid, but the TV insurance partners just believed in milking profits, not in investing in staff, their training or (sadly) even strategy. Virtually no clients or staff left, what will fund the partners' lifestyles now?
And if defendant insurance litigators are viewed as "inferior" to the eg. commercial lawyers, then it will be interesting to see how those departments fare without the considerable monthly fees insurance generated.

  • I am not sure what need there is going to be for even the few insurance partners left with virtually no employees remaining. Perhaps even the least bright/able like Cole "less than a Desmond" junior will have to step into the real world & find a job.

  • I expect DAC and BLM are just pinching these teams to consolidate their position on panels. Thereafter, who knows whether those transferred will still be required.

  • I think this comment by Carr is just after-the-event and reactive: if the work is not profitable then why are teams still being taken?
