King.com general counsel Marcus Whalen is to leave the online gaming company to take up a consultancy position.
Whalen joined King from Yahoo! in 2006 where he was a Europe general counsel at Yahoo!, prior to which he was in-house at Coca Cola. Bite-sized games company, King, is best known for the Candy Crush Saga app, now the most popular mobile game in the world.
There have been various changes for the legal team at the company in recent months.
In September, former Living Social international legal chief Rob Miller joined the company as chief legal officer at King after being approached by a headhunter (4 September 2012). The former eBay in-houser is understood to now hold the most senior legal role within the business.
Insiders have told The Lawyer that Whalen is planning to launch his own legal consultancy business. Whalen could not be reached fo comment. A spokesperson for King said that Whalen’s position will not be replaced.
