LAW FIRM OF THE YEAR: UKRAINE AND THE CIS

WINNER: Asters

Ukrainian firm Asters is the inaugural winner of this new award, which is designed to promote the strength of the CIS market outside of Russia. The firm is fairly small but growing fast, with year-on-year growth of about 10 per cent between 2012 and 2013.

Asters is in the process of developing and growing, and aims to involve partners as much as possible in the firm's operational side. Business development is a particular focus, along with the development of new practice areas. In the past few years the firm has launched white collar crime, family law, compliance and sports law teams, seeking to take advantage of a relatively small number of Ukrainian outfits practising in these areas.

The firm is also planning expansion outside Ukraine’s capital Kiev, depending on the growth of the local economy. Internationally, Asters is working on its network relationships, particularly to gain access to the opportunities in Asia and the Middle East.

Highly commended
