WINNER: Mehmet Gun & Partners

In one of our most competitive categories, Mehmet Gun & Partners takes the award for a raft of innovations. The firm is growing strongly in financial terms, and last year promoted three senior associates to partner. It expects to promote another two every year for the next five years, with the intention of shifting its partner to fee-earner ratio from over 1:4 at the moment to 1:3.

The growth has come on the back of strategic thinking following 2008, when Mehmet Gun carried out a full internal review and restructure resulting in a significant increase in productivity. A bespoke software package developed in-house has helped this process. The next stage is the establishment of a management committee, designed to free partners from management tasks.

Internationalisation is a current focus for Mehmet Gun and the firm has established Japan and Russia desks. It is developing relationships with firms in both countries and Japanese- and Russian-speaking lawyers are involved on both projects.

Mehmet Gun is also active at home. It bagged a leading role on the establishment of the Istanbul Arbitration Association, which will create and promote an arbitration centre in Istanbul. The firm is also spearheading a campaign to improve the efficiency and costs of taking a dispute to court in Turkey.

Mehmet Gun is known as an IP specialist firm and although it also has plans to grow its other practice groups, the continued development of IP work is a priority..

Highly commended
