White & Case has hired a team of Allen & Overy lawyers, including partner Paola Leocani, to boost its capital markets offering in Italy.
Leocani joins the US firm as a partner along with counsel Elena Radicella Chiaramonte, two senior associates, an associate and two trainees.
Leocani’s practice focuses on international and retail debt and derivatives securities, liability management transactions and regulatory matters. Her experience also covers bank funding.
White & Case’s global capital markets head Stuart Matty said growing the firm’s capital markets practice was a strategic priority.
Earlier this year, White & Case picked up a three-partner capital markets team from Linklaters in Paris (28 February 2013), as well as Latham & Watkins’ Madrid corporate head Juan Manuel de Remedios to open a Spanish M&A and capital markets-focused office (19 March 2013).
Michael Immordino, executive partner of White & Case in Milan, said in a statement: ”At a time when companies are resorting more to the capital markets instead of the traditional bank credit market, Paola’s excellent reputation and legal skills will be particularly beneficial to White & Case clients.”
The firm has recently advised the Republic of Italy on its $15bn US debt issuance programme on Schedule B, Intesa Sanpaolo in a $10bn Global Medium Term Note Programme, as well as other clients on Eurobond and high-yield bond issuances.
