Central & Eastern Europe
Turkish firm Mehmet Gün & Partners has announced the promotion of three lawyers to the partnership, bringing the number of partners at the firm to 10. Orçun Çetinkaya heads up the firm’s commercial litigation team, Özge Atılgan Karakulak is an IP specialist and Pelin Baysal is a member of the corporate and commercial team.
Eversheds has appointed insurance law expert Frédérique de la Chapelle as a partner and head of insurance in Paris. De la Chapelle joins Eversheds from Hascoet & Associés. She specialises in all issues relating to insurance and reinsurance, including the implementation of policies in France and internationally and the management of disputes in this area. Her clients include both French and overseas insurance companies and multinational corporations.
Herbert Smith Freehills has appointed Norton Rose’s Frankfurt corporate team leader Nico Abel as its second partner for its new German offices (16 May 2013). Abel joined Norton Rose in 2005 from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer. He focuses on cross-border M&A transactions, joint ventues, carve-outs and distressed M&A, advising strategic investors and private equity sponsors. The news follows HSF’s hire of Gleiss Lutz corporate partner Ralf Thaeter to launch its presence in Frankfurt earlier this year.
Luther has hired Bernd Götze as an of counsel in its Singapore office. Götze previously ran the Singapore office for German firm Kleiner Rechtsanwälte. He has experience working for international law firms in Asia and Germany.
Cuatrecasas Gonçalves Pereira has named partner António Vitorino as the new head of its European and competition law team. Vitorino has significant experience working for the European Commission, including serving five years as commissioner for justice and home affairs between 1999 and 2004.
Mason Hayes & Curran has hired Liam Guidera as a partner in its litigation team. Guidera focuses on commercial dispute resolution and representation of trade union members, as well as insurance disputes. He joins the firm from Frank Ward & Company.
A&L Goodbody has made up seven partners across its Belfast and Dublin offices. Dispute resolution and regulation partner Dario Dagostino represents international and domestic clients with a focus on contentious regulatory matters; dispute resolution partner Enda Hurley advises on a broad range of contentious commercial matters; Karen Killalea is an employment and litigation specialist; Laura Mulleady is an insurance partner with a focus on business transfers and amalgamations. Corporate partner Keavy Ryan has experience of M&A, inward investment and corporate reorganisations; banking and financial services partner Gearoid Stanley advises on debt capital markets, while IP and IT partner Ivan Waide has extensive experience advising Northern Ireland-based and international clients on technology development, protection and commercialisation.
William Fry has promoted three lawyers to partner. Cliona Donnelly becomes a tax partner, Eibhlin O’Donnell is made up in banking and financial services, and Catherine O’Flynn boosts the umber of partners in the firm’s employment team.
Bonelli Erede Pappalardo has elected two new managing partners amid a wider structural review (22 May 2013). Tax and transfer pricing head Stefano Simontacchi and employment head Marcello Giustiniani are taking over from outgoing managing partner Alberto Saravalle, who is returning to full-time fee-earning after two three-year terms in office. The pair were elected at a recent partners’ meeting, when a new remuneration committee was also elected. IP head Giovanni Guglielmetti, employment partner Vittorio Pomarici and tax head Andrea Silvestri will join the committee alongside incumbents Vittorio Allavena, who also heads the litigation department, and corporate partners Eliana Catalano and Roberto Pistorelli.
Grimaldi Studio Legale has hired Michele Pasca-Raymondo as of counsel. Pasca-Raymondo was formerly director of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development and deputy director general of the Directorate-General for Regional Policy of the European Commission.
