Herbies names new Greater China head

D’Agostino will take over the managing partner role on 1 May, while Tortoishell will retire from the firm’s partnership on 30 June.

D’Agostino, currently head of the firm’s arbitration practice in Greater China, will continue to lead the international arbitration practice across Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong. He joined Herbert Smith as a trainee in 1998 and was admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales in 2000 before coming a solicitor advocate in 2005. He was made up in 2007 and moved from London to Hong Kong in 2009 (2 September 2009). He was admitted as a solicitor in Hong Kong in 2010.

Retiring partner Tortoishell joined Herbert Smith’s London office in 1984, moved to Hong Kong in 1990 and became a partner in 1994. He has held a range of offices during his 22 years in Hong Kong including head of corporate, managing partner of the Hong Kong office and managing partner for Greater China.

The firm currently has 25 partners in Greater China.
