  • Very sad. Of course he shouldn't be treated differently from anyone else, but I imagine that it will be a culture shock to go from a top barrister to someone who is locked into his room at night.

  • This seems totally disproportionate when compared to the kind of lenient sentences handed down in relation to offences against the person.

  • We are praying for him and his family.

  • @Anonymous | 26-Feb-2013 12:45 pm - this is a standard sentence in accordance with sentencing guidelines for an offence of this nature.

  • The right sentence. The penalties for tax evasion have to be heavy if we not to become like Italy or Greece where the payment of tax is regarded by many as an option not an obligation.

  • I'm not praying for him, and only a little for his family. He is a tax cheat, and not only a tax cheat, but a tax cheat in the law, where people are supposed to have a higher regard for the law than anyone else bar perhaps the police. Oh, and he is also rich, so didn't even have a motive for cheating tax. He deserves jail time, and this sends the right message to the public.

  • My accountant failed to inform me of my due tax 2 weeks ago. I received the letter yesterday..I paid up today. Wow, they're tough on the phone. I made her laugh on the phone though when I compared her to my wife.
Back to Rohan. He was flying and must have thought that this was a case of paying up if questioned.

  • Most disturbed to hear of this dubious conviction. A Man of the highest integrity with a thoroughly decent nature has been subject to this travesty. One hopes the appeal will be successful. My best wishes are with him and his family at this most difficult of times.

  • To Edik at 10.27 PM, what is dubious about the conviction? I am amazed as are most on the facts presented he ran his "defence"?

  • ignorance of the law can never amount to a defence, coming from a man of law it becomes simply "nonsense".

  • For anyone to be able to cheat the VAT Man for 12 years is amazing wrong! I am just wondering why the VAT Man and the CPS have waited 12 years to bring this cheat to Justice ?
