London set Furnival Chambers has dismissed two clerks after £20,000 disappeared from chambers.
The two clerks were first suspended earlier this month following the discrepancy. The London set, which focuses on both criminal and civil cases, confirmed the dismissals today but refused to comment further.
According to sources the pair allegedly wrote themselves cheques using chambers’ signature stamp.
Each cheque was claimed to have been authorised but when audited this was found to be false. The City of London Police are investigating the matter.
The pair were suspended a number of weeks ago in connection to the allegations and were subsequently dismissed at a disciplinary meeting.
