Ropes & Gray has added to its London and Hong Kong offerings with a double partner hire from Fried Frank Harris Shriver & Jacobson covering finance, capital markets and corporate.
Fried Frank partner Mark Wesseldine will join Ropes’ City base on 1 May, while equity capital markets and M&A partner Victoria Lloyd is set to move from the US rival’s Hong Kong outpost to Ropes’ office in the hub on 13 May.
Wesseldine, who focuses on cross-border finance deals and restructurings, joined Fried Frank in 2009 from Allen & Overy, where he was also a partner (11 November 2009).
He acts for lenders, borrowers and private equity sponsors and has recently advised credit investors and special situation funds.
The hire brings Ropes’ London headcount to 66 lawyers including 20 partners and counsel.
Ropes chairman Brad Malt said in a statement: “With the addition of Mark, we continue to enhance the services we offer to our clients in the areas of finance and special situations in London.”
London office co-head Mike Goetz added: “We work with highly sophisticated investors and Mark’s experience in complex cross-border work will enable us to continue to service that market to a high level.”
Malt added: “Vicky Lloyd is one of the leading corporate lawyers in Hong Kong. Ropes & Gray’s Hong Kong team has quickly established itself as one of the leading firms for corporate transactions in Asia. Vicky’s addition enhances our already strong capital markets and corporate team in Hong Kong, including partners Paul Boltz and Julian Chung, and further expands and strengthens our ability to serve our clients on their most significant matters.”
Lloyd joined Fried Frank from Simmons & Simmons in 2006 as part of the former’s Hong Kong launch (12 December 2006).
