What was your first-ever job?
What was your worst experience as a trainee?
Leaving a file on the roof of a car as I drove off.
Where’s the best place to go if you want to find out what’s really going on in the office?
It used to be the staff kitchen but it now all goes quiet when I walk in.
What do you do at weekends?
The occasional trip to the Emirates Stadium, cinema, eat out.
What’s your favourite restaurant?
The Lavender House, Brundall.
What was the first record you ever bought?
I Could Be So Good For You, by Dennis Waterman.
Who’s your hero and why?
Anyone who overcomes adversity to be the best they can be.
What’s your biggest work career mistake and what did you learn from it?
Not going into law straight from school. I learned to follow my own mind and not be deterred by doubters.
What book are you reading?
Sadly, it is Tomorrow’s Lawyers: An Introduction to Your Future, by Richard Susskind.
What’s the most exciting deal/case you’ve worked on and why?
A tripartite agreement for the design and flying of a BAe146 into storm clouds. It was very educational.
If a movie was being made about your life, which actor would play you and why?
Ewan McGregor - the only blond, blue-eyed actor about my age (he’s three years younger) I can think of.
What is the worst partner conference location you’ve attended and why?
I’ve not had a bad location experience, but I was in a conference on 11 September 2001 as the news filtered through. Everything stopped.
Who would you least like to be stuck in a lift with and why?
Marvin, the paranoid android.
Tell us two truths and one lie about yourself (in any order):
I’ve climbed the highest mountain outside the Himalayas; I’ve swum the English Channel; and I’ve a higher certificate from the Wine and Spirit Education Trust.
