  • The politics is hotting up in Singapore where the chronically underperforming Freehills partners are under scrutiny from their HS colleagues and have nowhere to hide. Hence they are mounting a rearguard anti-merger push, based on claims of oppression and being treated as second class citizens, in a bid to extend their well overdue used by dates. However given the full history of failure from Freehills in Singapore and elsewhere outside Australia (failed offices in London, Thailand, Vietnam etc) over the past 20 years which the HS clan knows well, this is unlikely to hold much water. It will not help that major clients have recently terminated using Freehills amid claims of gross errors and overcharging by their desperate Singapore property practice which has been bumping along the bottom of the market.
