The Lawyer today unveils the shortlist for The Lawyer Awards 2013, with firms and teams of lawyers jostling for recognition for their contribution to the profession.
Our experienced judges and editorial team have whittled down the best entries from around 450 nominations in 27 areas, including new categories of Funds Team of the Year, Client Partner of the Year and Ethical Initiative of the Year, which replaces the pro bono category.
The Chambers of the Year will be one of 39 Essex Street, 3 Verulam Buildings, Devereux Chambers, Essex Court Chambers, Fountain Court, Littleton Chambers, Matrix, Monckton Chambers and Old Square Chambers.
Fountain Court’s Timothy Dutton QC and Monckton’s Tim Ward QC and Melanie Hall QC are among the stellar line-up vying for Barrister of the Year, alongside other individuals including Debevoise & Plimpton’s Peter Goldsmith QC and Mid Staffordshire Inquiry chair Robert Francis QC.

The In-house Lawyer of the Year will be named from a list including Anesco’s Jeremy Cross, GFH Capital’s David Haigh, Gregory Mappledoram of Truphone, Scotia Gas Networks Nicola Shand, Nokia’s Richard Vary and Geoff Wild of Kent County Council.
The judging panel this year spent a day debating the merits of the entries. Judges included Brick Court Chambers’ Tim Lord QC and One Essex Court’s Daniel Toledano QC, as well as in-housers Lesley Wan from Lloyds Banking Group, easyJet general counsel Andrew Winterton, Telefonica UK’s general counsel Ed Smith, Charlotte Heiss of RSA and Gordon Brough from Aberdeen Asset Management.
The winners of the Awards, run in association with Travelers, will be announced at a glittering ceremony held at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel on 25 June.
