  • If my experience of DLA partners' conferences a few years ago is anything to go by, there will be a smaller and far more luxurious yacht moored offshore for Sir Nigel and his pals. But I suppose it's an effective way of making sure that the handful of independent-minded partners don't try to bunk off from the corporate jollity for a few hours (unless any of them are very good swimmers indeed).

  • That's nice...DLA continue to treat their staff like shite but at least the partners are having a good time!

  • Quite shameful - the sort of excess that bankers would be pilloried for in the current climate. How insensitive to all of those losing their jobs at DLA in recent months - clearly detattached from reality if they are engaging in these sorts of displays of opulence.

  • That's a lot of partners to accommodate though - could they have done it more cheaply at a hotel while ensuring attendance?

Terrible PR but there's probably a sound business reason for it.

  • I hear the captain of the Costa Concordia is looking for a new gig - maybe he could be booked as the keynote speaker.

Personally I feel sorry for the trapped participants. I predict in the few days before the start a number of contagious illnesses will be developed.

  • I don't really have time for the "moral high-ground" comments from the usual hand-wringing wets. If DLA can afford to charter a vessel at that cost (and the partners are happy to take the hit on their profit shares) then good luck to them. If we all stop spending money for fear of offending those who have less than we do, we'll soon be in a much more serious economic mire. Altogether now ... "Money makes the world go around, the world go around, the world go around ...".

  • An of course this is also the firm which engaged in a bloodbath of associate sackings during the downturn and paid them the stat minimum.
